Vacation

Bali 2013 from Mike Lemmon on Vimeo.

I've been back from our trip to Japan and Indonesia for a month, but I'm still thinking about it. It's one of those trips that is hard to describe.

Japan was full of tradition, respect and amazing food. Indonesia was unforgettable, magical and gritty.

Michael made two videos - one of each trip. I didn't know that he was planning on doing these videos (which partially explains why I'm smiling at the camera in every frame... I thought he was taking a photo (ha!)) But when I saw them for the first time I totally teared up. Not in a super sad way, but in awe of the trip.

I have watched both videos several times and every time my chin starts to quiver a little and a smile grows on my face. I can smell the Indonesian plumeria and incense burning sweetly in the air. I can see the shrines of Kyoto and the skyscrapers of Tokyo.

I hate it when people say that their trips were a "once in a lifetime" but you know what... every trip is just that.  Not because those locations won't be there tomorrow or because we won't ever go there again - because we will! But the times that we had, the emotions that we felt are precious and will only happen once. We can't recreate them but they have shaped us.
