Finding structure in the creative process

If moods are contagious, then I want to catch Kate Bingaman Burt's! She is a creative force here in Portland and the first speaker at Portland Creative Mornings. Although I saw her speak several months ago, I rewatched her talk tonight.

She talks about automated systems and creating a simple series of rules to keep a creative process structured just enough that her inspiration could thrive but she'd still be able to get stuff done.

I struggle with this constantly. I love being creative but lately have found that I have little energy to create when I get home from work. The last thing I want to do when I am dragging is to huddle over my sewing machine. But watching TV... it just doesn't work for me. I feel bored and a bit antsy. Does this happen to you?

I'm going to try a few of Kate's pointers this week and see if I can develop a set of rules that keep me energized, structured and still inspired. I'll let ya know how it goes.
