Organizing my Burda Style patterns on my iphone

I am notorious for getting to the fabric store, finding the perfect fabric for one of my Burda Style Magazine patterns and not knowing if it is the right stretch, yardage, or accessories the pattern calls for. With more than a few dozen patterns in each issue and an entire year of magazines, it's no wonder I get discombobulated in the fabric store. While Burda Style is in the process of getting more of their patterns from their magazine online, they are far from being comprehensive. And, sadly a new app is a ways away. So, what's a girl to do?

Well, I recently made up a little system for myself using Evernote's iphone app. By having all the information at my disposal at the fabric store, I alleviate a lot of frustration with over or under buying fabric and materials. I don't know if this will work exactly the same for Blackberry, but it's worth a shot.

Here's how it works:

First I select a new note in Evernote and enter the appropriate tags. With fashion sewing, I organize them by garment type. So I've included pants, suit jacket etc. This will help you sort and search later. I don't use the location feature, but if you do, you'll find that I like to do my Evernoting at Peets coffee or various coffee shops around town.

Then, I create the title which always corresponds with the type of garment and the magazine issue. I then add details that will help me purchase the right yardage and accoutrements such as buttons, innerfacing etc.

Then I take a photo. I've found that actually having the photos saved to your phone before hand is much more helpful because then you can just easily import them. Plus the picture quality tends to be a bit better, which is odd.

Another cool thing is you can sync the program to work from your computer as well. Very handy when organizing patterns or trying to pick your next project. Pretty easy to do and saves me when I'm on the go.
Do you have any little systems that keep you sane when shopping for fabric?
