As you all know I've been showcasing tips for tall fashion over the past few weeks. Few resources exist for tall women and I'm finding that I am not alone in my search for cool clothes for my 6'1 frame.
Lisa Butcher, host of the BBC's What Not To Wear is a british model and designer who recently created a line of tall fashion for Long Tall Sally. Lisa appeared on the Martha Stewart Show's special tall edition I referenced recently. I was really impressed with her elegance and was thrilled when I recently got the opportunity to ask her for some expert advice.
What are some timeless styles that tall women should look for?
The most important fashion tip for tall women is to look for classic, timeless styles such as a blazer and button-down blouse that truly fit. Tall women should try to wear clothes that give shape to their figures or have colors that break up the outfit, such as contrasting jackets and pants. A great-fitting, classic pair of pants with wide legs and cuffs is a perfect, timeless style for a taller frame. Wider pant legs help balance out the figure and can also hide larger feet. Tall women are also able to wear statement jewelry. Big, bold accessories are a good way to liven up any outfit, so women should look to invest in some great bracelets, necklaces and rings as well as colorful scarves and brooches.
What kinds of clothing should tall women avoid?
A big fashion faux pas for tall women is wearing clothing that doesn’t truly fit their frames. Pants that are too short in the rise will not only feel uncomfortable but will also look uncomfortable. Fitted jackets are tricky, as the waist may fall in the wrong place. It’s important for tall women to look for clothing that is constructed specifically for them so that everything falls at the right spot.
Advice for tall fashion is hard to come by, but even harder for tall curvy women. Do you have any advice for tall (not plus sized) ladies on the curvy side?
Start with the foundations. Make the most of your curves by wearing the best underwear that will support, lift and smooth. Get fitted for a bra to make sure you’re wearing the proper size. Confidence is key, so look for clothing that accentuates your curves and makes you feel comfortable.
What's do you think is the best thing about being a tall woman?
My favorite thing about being tall is that I can easily find someone in a crowd. Or, as I like to remind my shorter friends, without even trying people look up to me! As my mother always said, “Why try to fit in when you were born to stand out?”
Here's a few outfits I put together based on Lisa's suggestions. Many of the pieces are from her Long Tall Sally fashion line.

As a short women, I don't have too many of the problems you mention, but I LOVE the outfit in the first photo, especially the jewelery. It's lovely!
