Regarding the nature of this strange looking object... I would have to say (considering my vet background) that this is obviously some sort of fancy French hairball! As the previous commentor said by way of their blog name, "This too will pass!" Glad to hear you are feeling better--drink a toast to the "folks" at your next happy hour.
