I always complain about how I can never find a pair of jeans that fit or sweaters that stretch the length of my albatross-like wingspan. I thought it would be an easy thing for fashion designers - but after my recent ventures into fashion construction, I found out I am completely wrong!
I have a list of things I would love to make
- a navy blue dress with a classic boat neck fit; Audrey Hepburn would have worn it for sure
- Knock out knickers from Sew Everything Workshop - my new favorite book
- A cute spring vest hoodie - burnt orange with contrasting black thread.
- A springy dress with a cute retro fabric.
The only problem is I don't have a dressform... so recently my husband and I tried making a duct tape dummy.
Here's the article from Threads magazine.
Basically you wrap yourself in duct tape and a friend (or foe by the end of this blasted process) cuts you out of your tape shell.
Well, the first "fitting" lead to tears, regretted words and a squished rib cage. I'm going to try again later this week and hope that it works out better.
